Here is an excerpt from Pastor Rob's blessing and exhortation:
"Names are important things. They have meanings. This baby's first name is Kai. "Kai" is Hawaiian for "Ocean." And since Jocelyn was raised on the east coast on the Atlantic Ocean in Nova Scotia, and Ben was raised on the west coast on the Pacific Ocean in British Columbia, they picked the name "Kai." May this dear little boy come to understand early THE OCEAN of the love of God for him.
"Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the skies of parchment made; were every stalk on earth a quill and every man a scribe by trade; to write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry, nor could the scroll contain the whole tho stretched from sky to sky." ~Frederick Lehman
This child's middle name is Thomas. A name chosen after Jocelyn's late father, grandfather to Kai. "Thomas" means "good company" from the Hebrew. May this precious boy grow to trust the Lord Jesus to be his personal Savior from sin and his Lord and Master. Then Kai will be "good company" for everyone he knows, because he will reflect the loveliness of Jesus, his Lord and Savior and Life.
Kai Thomas: Ocean - Good Company
The Bible verse I have chosen to give to baby Kai as a target toward which he can live his life is Matthew 8:27:
And the men marveled, saying, 'what kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?'

I was impressed with your pastor's use of the meaning behind names. I feel that we have lost so much by no longer attaching a historical and almost mystical past to our names; no hero to measure up to, no heritage to carry on in one's name.
